Why Machine Failures Often Start with Lubrication

Industrial machines are designed to withstand demanding operating conditions, deliver consistent performance, and support uninterrupted production. Yet, despite advances in engineering and manufacturing, unexpected equipment failures remain a significant challenge across industries. While machine breakdowns are often attributed to mechanical defects, electrical issues, or operator error, one of the most overlooked causes lies in something far simpler: lubrication.

Industrial lubrication is far more than simply applying oil or grease to moving parts. It is a carefully engineered process that reduces friction, controls operating temperatures, protects against corrosion, prevents contamination, and extends the service life of critical machine components. When industrial lubrication is neglected or poorly managed, even the most advanced machinery can suffer premature wear, reduced efficiency, unexpected downtime, and costly equipment failures.
In fact, maintenance studies consistently show that a large percentage of bearing and equipment failures are directly or indirectly related to lubrication issues. Whether it is selecting the wrong lubricant, extending oil change intervals beyond recommended limits, or allowing contaminants to enter the system, lubrication-related problems often develop gradually before resulting in a sudden breakdown.

Redefining Machining With Intelligent Synthetic Cutting Fluids

There is a moment on every shop floor that nobody photographs. The spindle is running, the tool is engaged, and somewhere in the narrow gap between a carbide edge and a piece of steel, a decision made months earlier in a purchasing office is quietly being tested. Not the machine tool decision. Not the insert decision. The fluid decision, the one that was probably made on a comparison of rates per litre, by someone who had four other things to close that afternoon.
I have spent a long time in and around plants, and I have come to believe that synthetic cutting fluids are among the most consequential purchases in a machining operation, yet they are often treated as the least consequential.
