SYNTHETIC HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDS
INTRODUCTION
In Engineering & particularly in chemical & process engineering, large quantities of heat have to be transferred at elevated operating temperatures for the smooth running of the system. Heat transfer fluids are used to do the specific jobs.
Two types of heat transfer fluids are encountered
- Mineral oils
- Synthetic Oils
Mineral oils are petroleum based oils are mixtures of various hydrocarbons depending upon their origin. Mineral oils are generally recommenced for a bulk oil temperature of 300°C beyond which they undergo oxidation & thermal cracking. This results in the formation of sludge & volatile materials. Thus reducing the capabilities of proper heat transfer.
Synthetic fluids offers the advantage of consistent molecular structure & strong strength of bonds between the atones thus resulting the high thermal stability. They also offers the advantages of high boiling points, low vapor pressure, high auto ignition temperature, high thermal conductivity besides improved oxidation / thermal stability. These fluids are recommended up to a bulk oil temperature of 400°C.
As our consistent endeavour to develop synthetic products and also to offer our esteem customers wide choice of products with improved performance PALCO has developed two type of synthetic heat transfer fluids.
PALTHERM S-LIGHT
PALTHERM S-MEDIUM
PALTHERM S-LIGHT : is the synthetic heat transfer fluid for use in the liquid phase for heat transfer at operating temperature ranging from 40°C to 250°C applications.
PALTHERM S-LIGHT is ideally suited for processes in which heat has to be both applied & removed. It provides improved thermal stability over its entire range of applications. With its use, thermal changes involving the formation of highly viscous or solid deposits on the walls & heat transfer fluid circuit can be eliminated / reduced even over long operating periods within the operating range, the product exhibits an excellent service life.
PALTHERM S-MEDIUM : is a moderate viscosity synthetic heat transfer fluid capable of providing satisfactory service life upto a bulk oil temperature of 320°C. It offers the following advantages over mineral based fluid.
- Resists deterioration at recommended operating temperatures.
- Assures long fluid life & clean systems.
- Good heat transfer characteristics.
- Low pour point & moderate viscosity, decreases the pumping losses a power requires for circulation.
